The two mods have some overlapping features, and anything in life tragedies that you don't want is easily disabled (there's a deadly disease, kidnappings, and armed robbers, for example). Iirc you can set up sims as serial killers as well. Yes, you can do this.
Here is a list of the mods that I find essential and can’t play without: • MC Command Center (MCCC) by Deaderpool - the no. 1 must have mod. It has too many features to list but it’s essential in all my saves. You can control basically anything in the game with this mod.

You can protect your sim from deaths occurring from the Extreme Violence -Mod- by giving them the "Protect This Sim From Murder/Death" Option from the mod's options. Added 7 interactions when you click on dying sims:

Perform Violent Interactions & Murders. Kill sims in 40+ different ways, including Firearms, knives, melee weapons & more.. Turn violent and beat sims up in different violent ways like punching sims, kicking them, and more.. Develop a horrible reputation by becoming the most hated and feared sim in town.
