African American Texans or Black Texans are residents of the state of Texas who are of African ancestry and people that have origins as African-American slaves. African Americans formed a unique ethnic identity in Texas while facing the problems of societal and institutional discrimination as well as colorism for many years.
Little Egypt was an African-American community in Texas which was founded after the Civil War and continued until the sale of the land in 1962. The roughly thirty-five acre neighborhood was located within Dallas city limits, north of Northwest Highway.
1 Ιαν 2001 · Egypt (Little Egypt), twelve miles southeast of Kaufman in eastern Kaufman County, formed sometime before the Civil War. This predominantly Black community extended along Farm Road 1836 from Ayres Chapel on the west to the Cedar Hill church on the east.

The Texas population by 1860 was quite diverse, with large elements of European whites (from the American South), African Americans (mostly slaves brought from the east), Tejanos (Hispanics with Spanish heritage), and about 20,000 recent German immigrants.
