Hydrangea flowers bloom in shades of blue, lavender, white, pink, red, green, and purple. The bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla) is the most popular of these flowering bushes.
One of the few hydrangeas with pretty fall color, Hydrangea serrata ‘Bluebird’ is a compact and tidy deciduous shrub laden with delicate lacecap flowers, up to 8 in. across (20 cm), in early summer. The flower heads are composed of large, showy sterile sepals radiating around a central cluster of tiny fertile, rich blue florets.
Color: Pale pink or blue flowers; green foliage. Oversized sepals occur on oversized flower heads for a stunning display. The blooms, which occur on old and new wood, are pastel pink or baby blue, depending on soil pH. Plant this dwarf hydrangea in containers, as edging, or in mass plantings.
