The Boss 429 was produced in limited numbers in 1969 and 1970. Its origin is twofold: allow Ford to homologate its new Ford 385 engine -based semi-hemispherical 429 V8 for NASCAR racing, and to provide a big block alternative to the 5.0 L and under Trans Am Racing bred small block Boss 302 Mustang .
The Boss 429 engine was offered late in 1969 and was rated at over 370 horsepower. It had aluminum heads with extremely large free flowing ports, contoured exhaust manifolds, a high rise intake manifold to help it gain horses. The block was a strengthened 429 cast block.

The red arrow above left indicates the location of the 429 CJ/SCJ engine block casting number. A closeup is shown at center of the D0VE-A and the D1VE-6015-AA at right. The 429 CJ/SCJ engines used in the 71 Mustang/Cougar had either a D0VE-A or a D1VE-6015-AA block.
18 Ιουν 2020 · Starting with a Ford A460 iron block as a base, Stanton went way beyond the original 429 cubic-inch displacement n the Boss 429 engine. The A460 block comes with a 4.340-inch bore out of the crate, but Stanton took the cylinders out to the recommended maximum bore, and then added another .015 inch, for a total bore diameter of 4.615 inches.
The iconic Mustang would feature one of the largest big-block engines ever utilized by Ford in a production vehicle. This engine would later find success within NASCAR competition when placed in the Ford Torino.
