Late in 1942, Walter Felson left his fledgling medical practice in Greenfield, Ohio to join the US military’s effort to stop Germany, Italy, and Japan from taking over the world.
The museum organised and held four major film events every year: Bradford International Film Festival, Bradford Animation Festival, Bite the Mango and Fantastic Films Weekend. These attracted international speakers and new and classic works from around the world.

Our history in pictures. 1983: The museum opens as the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, with a remit to explore the art and science of the image. 1983: The first IMAX in Britain opens at the museum. It becomes the country's biggest cinema screen.
Bradford was home to some of the earliest pioneers of cinema and the location of many classic films. The city’s cinema history reaches back to the 1890s. As a result, Bradford was awarded the status title of Bradford UNESCO City of Film.
16 Ιουν 2023 · The National Science and Media Museum is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a short film sharing some memorable events over the years. The museum opened in Bradford on 16 June 1983.
