By the 1980s, arrays of Church-operated satellite dishes relayed and received broadcasts of general conference and other meetings, allowing Latter-day Saints across vast distances to share in live events.
There, during the winter and early spring of 1846–47, the Latter-day Saints prepared for their historic trek to the remote valley of the Great Salt Lake, 1,000 miles to the west. Brigham Young’s advance party led the way, arriving in the Salt Lake Valley on June 22, 1847.
History. The nightly preachings of George J. Adams brought an audience of some 1,200 in Charlestown, Massachusetts, in 1843. At that time, there were some 14 branches (small congregations) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Boston area.
