The Bachelor of Education (Hons) program is conducted in eight semesters (four years) with 120 credits and combines both coursework and practical experience in educational settings. It provides with a broad knowledge of the principals of education, a firm foundation of teaching skills and practices in educational research.
The primary responsibility of the Department of Teacher Education is to ensure educator-trainers and academics working in the field of Education update their knowledge and skills through formal qualification. The department conducts profession-oriented Diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, Postgraduate diplomas, Master’s, and MPhil degree programs.
24 Σεπ 2019 · The programme of study will consist of 16 courses including, professional, general, practical and academic component offered by the Faculty of alternative & Teacher Education as specified by the rules for the award of the Bachelor of Education Degree Certificate.
The BEd degree is a professional qualification recognized by the Ministry of Education and relevant educational authorities in Sri Lanka. Graduates are eligible to apply for teaching positions in government schools, private schools, international schools, and other educational institutions.
B.Ed. in English (Hons) Degree is exclusively designed for teachers, prospective teachers and even for coordinators and managers of Education Sector and the professionals involved in the field of Education both in state and non-state institutes.
The total number of course units for the BEd programme depends on the requirements and guidelines given by the Faculty of Education. However, students who read for the BEd degree are requested to be in line with the requirements and regulations for a three-year degree in Arts up to Part II of the BEd programme.
