Hi - I recently had an issue with Budget wherein they tried to scam me out of money for damage done to the vehicle before I rented it. I figured I’d share my experience, how I successfully fought back, and how I recommend consumers protect themselves when renting cars.
We asked multiple questions of the Budget representative to attempt to delineate the boundaries of what the insurance covered, and were verbally told on multiple occasions that the insurance would cover "all physical damage". On the way to our new home, we hit a curb and the truck got a flat tire.
Yesterday we got an email stating the car was returned damaged and we owe them 1300. The car had a dent prior to our rental, and it was returned in the same condition. After a bit of research it seems overwhelming that the Puerto Rico /San Juan budget scams as many people as possible. Called budget, they said they can’t do anything about it.

At the eleventh hour I finally admitted defeat to the fact that for the first time in 15 years my policy was going up and not down (spit with disgust!) and opted for Budget Insurance being the cheapest price.
