21 Ιαν 2021 · 1.1 These test methods describe two ways of determining the total/moist/bulk density, dry density, and dry unit weight of intact, disturbed, remolded, and reconstituted (compacted) soil specimens (Note 1). Intact specimens may be obtained from thin-walled sampling tubes, block samples, or clods.
1. Scope* 1.1 This test method covers the determination of the average density of a quantity of coarse aggregate particles (not including the volume of voids between the particles), the relative density (specific gravity), and the absorption of the coarse aggregate.
Soil bulk density is dependent on soil texture, and is used as an indicator of compaction and relative restrictions to root growth (Table 1). Typical values for soil bulk density range from 1.0 to 1.7 g/cm3 (Arshad, Lowery and Grossman, 2015).

loosest condition of a cohesionless, free-draining soil that can be attained by a standard laboratory procedure, which prevents bulking and minimizes particle segregation.
Bulk density of soil –Definition •Bulk density of soil is the ratio between a mass of soil and its volume: 𝜌 = 𝑀 where 𝜌 is bulk density (g cm-3), 𝑀is mass of oven-dry soil (g) and is volume of soil (cm3) Several methods (direct, indirect) can be used to estimate bulk density. We will use direct methods: 1. Coated clod method 2.
