  1. Prior to adopting a proposed name, the name may be reserved for a period of 60 days. A preliminary search of corporation, limited liability company and limited partnership names already of record with the California Secretary of State can be made online through our Business Search.

  2. To request the reservation of a corporation, limited liability company or limited partnership name, complete the enclosed Name Reservation Request Form, attach a check in the amount of $10 (made payable to the Secretary of State) and submit the request:

  5. All you have to do is reserve the name by filing a Name Reservation Request form. You’ll need to hand-deliver or mail this form to the California Secretary of State’s office and you’ll pay a $10 fee.

  6. Over 140 Business Filings, Name Reservations, and Orders for Certificates of Status and Certified Copies of Corporations, Limited Liability Companies and Limited Partnerships available online.

  7. Once you have settled on a name for your California LLC or corporation, you can reserve the name by submitting a Name Reservation Request. This form can be mailed to the Secretary of State or delivered in-person. There is a $10 filing fee for all Name Reservation Requests.
