Consumer Attorneys of California was founded as the California Plaintiff Trial Lawyers Association on April 8, 1961, in Palm Springs. The name was later shortened to California Trial Lawyers Association, and in 1995 it was changed to Consumer Attorneys of California.
Majeski was named Trial Lawyer of the Year in 1989 by the American Board of Trial Advocates and was elected to the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame by the Litigation Section of the State Bar of California in 1995 and was named Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2002 by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association.
Over the years, group’s structure grew more formal. The association incorporated on May 3, 1983. Prior to incorporation, the association was a chapter of the California Trial Lawyers Association. In that same year offices moved from Market Street to their current home in the Standard Oil Building.
In comparison, according to Wylie, the California Trial Lawyers Association (currently known as Consumer Attorneys of California) had approximately 11 people on the governing board who, among them were Herb Hafif, Marvin Lewis, Robert Cartwright, Jack Werchick, Ed Pollack and Ned Good.
In 1994, in a move with national repercussions, the organization became the first trial-bar association to change its name to avoid use of the phrase "trial lawyers."
