Your one-stop shop for everything you ever wanted to know about the New Jersey Death Index, with a searchable database of over 1.2 million records for 2001-2017 and direct links to over 500,000 digital images for the not-yet-transcribed 1901-2000 data. It’s all there and it’s all free, free, free!
This database indexes death certificates filed with the New Jersey Department of Health from June 1878 through December 1900. It includes 628,584 records. Note that in addition to death certificates, the database also includes some burial, reburial, transit, and disinterment permits (denoted as "BP", "RP", "TP", and "DI" respectively).
17 Ιουλ 2018 · If you want a certified record from 1918 to the present, you will need to order online directly from the state of New Jersey and you will have to provide proof of both your identity and your relationship to the deceased. This method is usually pretty quick, but is also the most expensive one.
The searchable databases listed below provide access to over 2,350,000 database entries, indexing over 1,500,000 documents and photographs housed at the New Jersey State Archives. Database development is currently focused on 1848-1878 death records, early land records, and the records of the Supreme Court.
Looking for information on somebody who died in New Jersey? You can do a search in the database for records of more recent deaths, or browse through the digitized images of the index for older deaths. You need to enter at least one given name or surname in order to see search results.

Includes index entries for many marriage records, death records and military records.
