These scams arrive via email (phishing) or text messages (smishing) and attempt to gain your personal information. The scammer sends you an unsolicited email or text message that claims to be from a legitimate organization, such as financial institutions, businesses or government agencies.
In the following example, scammers are trying to mimic your bank’s email address using the services of a fictitious email service provider, “yourbankltd.ca”. From: loandept@yourbankltd.co The catch: Did you notice that it comes from a ".co" rather than ".ca"?
30 Ιουλ 2024 · Report the phishing email: Report suspicious emails to the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/Complaint, and forward them to the Anti-Phishing Working Group at reportphishing@apwg.org. You can also forward smishing attack texts to SPAM (7726).
The emails look like the automated emails sent when the CAFC receive a file through our Fraud Reporting System. The email asks you to click on a link to view your report. This is a malicious link and a fraudulent message.
