Nero was the ffth Roman emperor. He came to power aged sixteen and reigned for almost fourteen years, from AD 54 to 68. Nero had to steer a vast empire through a period of great change. Faced with conficting demands and expectations, he adopted policies that appealed to the people, but alienated many members of the elite.
