Terminal R must be connected for proper thermostat operation. “Service Filter” Is Displayed On Thermostat. After the configured number of blower operating hours, the Service Filter message will be displayed.

If your Carrier thermostat display is blank, a power issue is likely the culprit. Flipping your HVAC circuit breaker switch off and back on should help fix the problem. More so, if your thermostat is battery-powered, replacing the batteries could do the trick.
