Tucked into a bend on the shore of Tygart’s Creek, Cascade Cave is located within the 70 acre Cascade Caverns State Nature Preserve, 2.3 miles from the main park.
Cascade Cave is our longest scenic cave tour that is noted for its large chambers and many beautiful cave formations. A highlight of the tour is a 30-foot high underground waterfall as well as the Lake Room’s reflecting pool, the Cathedral in North Cave, and the Dance Hall where a previous owner held weekly dances.
Facilities - state resort park. Parking - abundant. Hazards - steep banks above Tygarts Creek at Cascade Caverns. Activities - hiking, geological study, birding. Directions - Carter County. From the junction of I-64 and U.S. 60 N.E. of Olive Hill, follow U.S. 60. east 1.5 miles.
19 Ιαν 2020 · Four of the park’s caves offer guided cave walking tours year-round. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, check out Cascade Cave, named for it’s 30-foot underground waterfall. When you’ve had enough time underground, pop above the surface and enjoy more than 26 miles of hiking trails in the park.
18 Αυγ 2023 · Cascade Caverns, located inside Carter Caves State Resort Park, offers a pretty incredible experience. If you’ve never seen an underground waterfall, you can’t miss a trip to Cascade Caverns. Unlike its sister cave (mentioned immediately below), Cascade Caverns only offers tours in the winter.
Carter and Cascade Caves are the best-known caverns in eastern Kentucky. Located in north-central Carter County, the Carter and Cascade Cave system is comprised of more than 20 caverns. Four of these caves are open for tours.
