Caymus Vineyards is located in the center of the Napa Valley. Primary production is Cabernet Sauvignon grown on low-fertility soils on both the valley floor and the mountains that surround the valley.
Caymus Vineyards is a Napa winery owned by Chuck Wagner and his family. It was named for George Yount's Rancho Caymus land grant, [2] which in turn was named for the villages of Kaimus, the Wappo settlements previously existing in the region. [3]
The Caymus label, established in 1972, is best known for its signature style Cabernet Sauvignon; the 2019 we tasted was rich and complex. We were surprised to learn that Caymus also produces a small amount of Zinfandel; we tried the 2018 Napa Valley Zinfandel and fell in love with its full-bodied flavor.
Caymus Vineyards is located in the center of Napa Valley in Rutherford. Chuck Wagner and his family has farmed the current Caymus property to wine grapes since the 1940s, producing their first vintage in 1972.
Today, Caymus Cabernet is one of Napa Valley’s most celebrated wines. Made from grapes farmed in 8 of Napa Valley’s 16 appellations, the wine has a signature style that is dark in color, with rich fruit and ripe tannins – as approachable in youth as it is in maturity.
