11 Ιουλ 2024 · Hypoventilation syndrome comprises disorders associated with alveolar hypoventilation (an elevation in PaCO₂ to levels >45 mmHg). Hypoxemia is also present in most cases, especially during sleep (PaO₂ <60 mmHg).

25 Απρ 2020 · Central hypoventilation in adult patients is a rare life-threatening condition characterised by the loss of automatic breathing, more pronounced during sleep. In most cases, it is secondary to a brainstem lesion or to a primary pulmonary, cardiac or neuromuscular disease.
A form of late-onset central hypoventilation syndrome has been described in at least 11 cases in the literature (summarized in Katz and coworkers [156]). Typically, these children present at an older age (2–4 yr) and have sleep-related hypoventilation and hypothalamic abnormalities.
Other potential treatments for CCHS include oxygen therapy and medicine for stimulating the respiratory system. Currently, problems arise with the extended use of ventilators, including fatal infections and pneumonia.
