The Institute offers 16-week police academy training, 8-week correctional officer training, and advanced specialty classes for current officers in firearm and arrest and control tactics. Students come from more than 300 client agencies across Illinois.
The Fall 2024 Community Police Academy will be held from Wednesday, September 11 through November 6. Each evening of instruction is designed to not only inform participants of various crime issues, but also seeks participant ideas for possible solutions.

It is an opportunity for you to participate in hands-on learning, demonstrations, and presentations from current police officers and others involved in the criminal justice system. The Community Police Academy is a free nine-week course involving one three-hour class per week.
The dates below are a reflection of when the academy would typically occur. Basic Youth Police Academy: July 7 – 10, 2020, 1:00 – 4:00 PM. Open to students who have completed 6th through 8th grade. *Advanced Youth Police Academy: July 21 – 24, 2020, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Open to high school students.
