This app called Lossless Switcher does something very simple but brilliant on a Mac. https://github.com/vincentneo/LosslessSwitcher . Essentially, run this app and when you play music through your DAC, it will switch AudioMidi to the correct sample rate and bitdepth ofr the music being played.
LosslessSwitcher switches your current audio device's sample rate to match the currently playing lossless song on your Apple Music app, automatically. Let's say if the next song that you are playing, is a Hi-Res Lossless track with a sample rate of 192kHz, LosslessSwitcher will switch your device to that sample rate as soon as possible.

8 Ιουν 2021 · Workaround on MacOS for bit perfect sound is to click the "Lossless" icon and then adjust bit depth and sample rate in Audio MIDI Setup to match the stream. @Apple should update the KB docs to include this info.

Only when no resampling takes place do we have what is known as ‘bit-perfect playback’. And this is only achievable on MacOS by manually specifying the Audio MIDI Setup app’s sample rate on a track-by-track (or album-by-album) basis.
