The Community Academy is a community outreach and education program for the residents of Chicago. It gives the community a first hand experience of the Chicago Police Department and the units within the Department.
Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy (CPFTA) courses are for juniors and seniors. Students in this citywide program meet after school every Tuesday and Wednesday during the school year. CPFTA recruits and trains up to 125 public and non-public high school students each year.

We know the children of Chicago are our future, and the Officer Friendly program tries to make their future safer. Topics discussed include stranger awareness, street safety, how to use 911, and child protective behaviors.

The Institute offers 16-week police academy training, 8-week correctional officer training, and advanced specialty classes for current officers in firearm and arrest and control tactics. Students come from more than 300 client agencies across Illinois.
