Many Christian parents of children with learning disabilities, mental illness, trauma or developmental disabilities desire for their children to attend a school where they can receive an excellent education in an environment that supports the values the parents seek to instill at home.

While Christian schools may not be under a legal mandate to serve students with disabilities, they are under a higher mandate. This article attempts to frame this mandate to serve students with disabilities within a biblical context by presenting a concise theology of disability.
Most Christian special education teachers respond to a call to teach children with disabilities and are inspired to share the plan, purpose, and perspective of Christ; in other words to have the mind of Christ (Tucker, 1996, p. 29).
