18 Σεπ 2015 · The H in CHS refers to the R/W head address. The disk controller (electrically) selects the requested R/W head (after the seek is complete) by its address to access the correct track. All other R/W heads are (electrically) disabled. The S in CHS refers to the sector address.
Cylinder-head-sector (CHS) is an early method for giving addresses to each physical block of data on a hard disk drive. It is a 3D-coordinate system made out of a vertical coordinate head, a horizontal (or radial) coordinate cylinder, and an angular coordinate sector.
18 Σεπ 2015 · Short answer: Multiply cylinder # times head # times sector # and it's close to LBA. I tried pasting an OpenBSD fdisk listing in here but it's a whole 80 characters wide and the web page wouldn't take it.

7 Απρ 2019 · In which case the last sector is equal to the last 8 sectors. the limit of CHS is 8GB/128GB depending on version, which means it can't address big drives. But why do you care about CHS? It must be converted to LBA anyway. My question is, how do I understand what is happening?
Today we have CHS translating BIOS types that can use one CHS at the INT 13H interface and a different CHS at the device interface. These two types of CHS will be called the logical CHS or L-CHS and the physical CHS or P-CHS in this document. L-CHS is the CHS used at the INT 13H interface and P-CHS is the CHS used at the device interface.
