Overview. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a worldwide faith of over 17 million members centered on the belief that everyone on earth is a son or daughter of a loving God 1 and that His Son, Jesus Christ, saved the world from sin and death.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, informally known as the LDS Church or Mormon Church, is the largest Latter Day Saint denomination. Founded by Joseph Smith during the Second Great Awakening, the church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has established congregations and built temples worldwide.
Ten years later, after a series of revelations and dramatic visitations to Joseph and others, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was officially organized on 6 April 1830, in Fayette, New York.
The Church established the first two stakes in Mississippi in 1965 in Hattiesburg and Jackson. Today there are more than 20,000 Church members organized in four stakes. Church members in the state have partnered with civic leaders in responding to the aftermath of recent natural disasters.
