All Texas registered vehicles are required to receive an annual inspection. All inspections include a comprehensive safety inspection; however, some vehicles are required to have an emissions test in addition to the safety inspection.
1 Ιουλ 2024 · Beginning January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles will no longer need a vehicle safety inspection prior to registration. However, all non-commercial vehicles in the state will be subject to a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee.
2 Ιουν 2023 · Most Texas drivers will no longer be required to have their cars pass an annual safety exam after state lawmakers removed the rule from Texas code. Texas is one of 13 states that mandate annual inspections for cars.
However, in 2025, significant changes to Texas’ vehicle inspection requirements are set to impact millions of drivers. These updates aim to streamline the inspection process, reduce bureaucracy, and address the modern realities of vehicle safety.
(1) issue a vehicle inspection report to the owner or operator of each vehicle inspected by the station; and (2) issue a passing vehicle inspection report to the owner or operator of each vehicle inspected by the station that passes the inspections required by this chapter.
