5 Ιουν 2012 · Summary. Numerous thinkers have speculated about both the origin and function of the entrepreneur and the nature of entrepreneurship. A large body of research in economics now addresses these topics. Section 2.1 briefly surveys ‘early’ (chiefly pre-1975) views about entrepreneurship.
First, it reviews briefly the reasons why entrepreneurship should concern us. Second, it seeks to explain why economic theory has failed to provide an illuminating formal analysis of the decision process of the entrepreneur and concludes that it is also unlikely to be able to do so in the future.
A theory of the entrepreneur is needed to explain firm success or failure, firm creation and growth, economic growth and development, and income distribution. The entrepreneur is significant historically because, although he is atypical, he has altered the course of history.
