Arabic Poetry - a tutorial that explains the basics of classical Arabic poetry through the medium of classical English poetry.
This course will give you the ability to analyse and appreciate the metre (aroud) and rhyme (qafiyah) of Classical Arabic poetry. Those skilled in Arabic would also be able to use the skills learned in the course to compose Arabic verse.
With help from arabic.fi, even beginners can read Arabic poems. All the words are explained and linked to, so that you can enjoy the original poems in Arabic.
Scanning Arabic poetry according to the traditional method involves the following steps: transcription, symbolization, and superimposing the taf’īlāt (feet) to identify the correct meter. We will explain each step in detail.
