Physical Therapy. While you are wearing the sling, you will likely lose muscle strength in your shoulder. Once your bone begins to heal, the pain will decrease and your doctor may start gentle shoulder and elbow exercises. These exercises will help prevent stiffness and weakness.

Follow up: You will see a shoulder specialist 1-2 weeks after your injury. They may do another x-ray to check the position of your fracture. They will explain the next stage of your rehabilitation.

This rehabilitation protocol has been developed for the patient following an open reduction and internal fixation of a clavicle fracture. The protocol is divided into phases. Each phase is adaptable based on the individual and special circumstances. These are general guidelines.
