17 Νοε 2009 · I emailed the Kittrich Co. that makes contact paper because there have been several posts on here about the food safety of the product. According to their reply, the clear Con-Tact brand paper is food safe: "It has no dye in it, hence no lead." I like to cover cake boards in various types of papers and then use contact paper over the paper.
It is not recommended to use contact paper to line baking sheets, as the high temperatures in the oven may cause the contact paper to release harmful chemicals. Instead, consider using parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
Cake boards must not be an afterthought. You can use scrapbook paper, heavy wrapping paper, cardstock, or embossed paper paired with (and most likely needed) a clear, heavyweight (food-safe) contact paper.
