Generic Name Clopidogrel DrugBank Accession Number DB00758 Background. Clopidogrel is a prodrug of a platelet inhibitor used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. 3,9 Clopidogrel is indicated to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction for patients with non-ST elevated acute coronary syndrome (ACS), patients with ST-elevated myocardial infarction, and in recent MI, stroke, or ...
10 Ιουλ 2023 · Explain the mechanism of action of clopidogrel. Review the indications for initiating therapy with clopidogrel. Describe the significant drug-drug interactions that might occur when prescribing clopidogrel.
Coprescribing of clopidogrel and other drugs is common. Available reviews have addressed the drug–drug interactions (DDIs) when clopidogrel is as an object drug, or focused on combination use of clopidogrel and a special class of drugs.
7 Μαρ 2013 · The main goal of this descriptive study was to assess the prevalence of cases of clopidogrel–drug interactions in the primary health care physicians' practices and to analyze the possibility for the reduction of this potential factor of clopidogrel ineffectiveness.
18 Αυγ 2004 · Because currently no recommended doses for clopidogrel in children are available, initial drug dosages may be extrapolated from adult regimens. Prospective pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies are needed to explore dosing, indications, and efficacy of clopidogrel in children.
17 Φεβ 2020 · Mechanism of Action. Clopidogrel requires in vivo biotransformation to an active thiol metabolite. The active metabolite irreversibly blocks the P2Y 12 component of ADP receptors on the platelet surface, which prevents activation of the GPIIb/IIIa receptor complex, thereby reducing platelet aggregation.
1 Μαρ 2011 · Clinicians concerned about clopidogrel–drug interactions have the option of prescribing either an alternative platelet P2Y 12 receptor inhibitor without known drug interactions, or statin and gastro-protective agents that do not interfere with clopidogrel metabolism.
