I would have to think that Colt was involved in the "rigorous" testing of the initial plastic grips since they were making all of the new 1911s at the time.
Grips for Colt 1911s and 1911 clones - including Remington R1, M1911 Pistol, Rock Island Armory Series 1911 Series, Ruger SR1911, Sig Sauer SW1911, Para Expert Commander, S&W SW1911, Kimber Custom, Kimber Eclipse, Colt Delta Elite, Colt Commander, 1991A1, and Colt Government.
12 Μαρ 2011 · Colt used 14 lines per inch, Springfield used 15, and Remington-UMC used 13-13.5 per inch on the wood stocks. On the plastic stocks, the lines can be counted between the screw holes and using a reference guide the manufacturer can be determined. Colt had Coltwood and Coltrock plastic grip panels.
Up for auction is this set of Coltrock "hollow back" grips - NO mold numbers. These grips have some wear with the left panel showing some evidence of cracking on the backside. These grips are appropriate for Colt 1911a1's from about serial number 718,000 to about 719,752.
