First, the sweeping general statement in John 2:24: “he knew all people.” Second, the specific application of that statement to people’s private, inner life in John 2:25: “he himself knew what was in man.” Third, the implication of that in verse 25: “he needed no one to bear witness about him.”
John 2:23. Time, place, and circumstance are again given. ὡς δὲ ἦν ἐν τοῖς Ἰεροσολύμοις ἐν τῷ πάσχα ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ. The last clause is added with a reference to John 2:13. Then the feast was near, now it had arrived.
