Location. One kind of coniferous forest called the northern coniferous forest is located in 50° to 60°N latitudes. Another kind known as temperate coniferous forest thrives in lower altitudes of Asia, Europe, and North America in the high areas of mountains.
Mediterranean conifer and mixed forests is an ecoregion, in the temperate coniferous forest biome, which occupies the high mountain ranges of North Africa. [2] The term is also a botanically recognized plant association in the African and Mediterranean literature. [3]
Two forest zones are found: the conifer zone from 1,200 to 2,500 m and a mixed broadleaf zone, from sea-level to about 1,500 m. Above the treeline, the vegetation is placed within the Mediterranean High Atlas Juniper Steppe ecoregion.
Coniferous forests (fir, pine, spruce) make up around one-third of the world’s forests and are found in northern parts of North America, Europe, and Asia, where temperatures tend to be lower and winter tends to last longer.
The Eastern Mediterranean conifer-sclerophyllous-forests, also known as the Eastern Mediterranean conifer-forests, [1] is an ecoregion in the eastern Mediterranean Basin. It covers portions of Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, Palestinian territories, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.
Coniferous forests also occur, especially around the Mediterranean. Pine and deciduous oak forest are widespread across California. Pinus halepensis, lentisk (Pistacia lentiscus), kermes oak (Quercus coccifera) and Chamaerops are found across Spanish Mediterranean forest.
This ecoregion spans the Mediterranean coastline of the Middle East, running through Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and the Syrian Arab Republic. Warm, rainy winters and hot, dry summers are typical of the Mediterranean climate.
