This code is referred to as "The Konami Code", "The Contra Code", or simply "The Code"
Codes. At the Title Screen press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. At the title screen, press and hold the A & B buttons simultaneously and push Start.

Super C for the NES's code is: Right Left Down Up A B Start. Same as before, finish before the scroll is done for the title screen. That'll give you 10 lives.
