Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) – or convnets, for short – have in recent years achieved results which were previously considered to be purely within the human realm. In this chapter we introduce CNNs, and for this we first consider regular neural networks, and how these methods are trained.
This chapter presents convolutional neural networks (CNNs) that are often classifiers, so a CNN can be classifying neural network. A CNN is an ANN that includes at least one convolutional layer. They are used extensively in deep learning performing many vital functions in deep neural networks.
