Fine needle aspiration biopsy, also referred to as FNA, is a procedure in which a surgeon uses e fine needle and syringe for the removal of sample of tissue, cells or fluid from a lump of the patient’s body. The CPT manual describes different versions of fine needle aspiration procedures with the CPT codes 10004 until CPT 10021.
2 Μαΐ 2019 · Fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies (CPT® codes 10004-10012, and 10021) shall not be reported with a biopsy procedure code for the same lesion. For example, an FNA specimen is usually examined for adequacy when the specimen is aspirated.
7 Απρ 2023 · Choose the correct code: The CPT code for Fine Needle Aspiration is 10021. This code is used for superficial tissue samples, such as those obtained from a breast or thyroid mass. For deeper tissue samples, the CPT code 10022 may be used.
CPT Code(s): 88173; this CPT code may also be reported in conjunction with aspiration of the specimen (10021) and/or immediate on-site evaluation of the specimen (88172). Additional CPT codes, such as 88106, 88108 and/or 88305, may be reported, depending on the preparation methods.
