Definition. State courts are judicial bodies established by individual states within the United States to adjudicate legal disputes, interpret state laws, and administer justice at the state level.
Some state court systems are extremely complex, while others are rather simple in their structure. For example, the state of New York, with a population of 19 million residents in the year 2000, are served by approximately 3,500 full-time judges working within 13 different layers of courts.

6 Μαρ 2019 · The term “judicial branch” refers to the branch of the U.S. government responsible for interpreting and applying existing laws to the cases that come before it. For example, the judicial branch decides everything from criminal and civil cases and applies the laws of the jurisdiction, as well as the Constitution to them.
Generally, state courts are common law courts, and apply their respective state laws and procedures to decide cases. [7] They are organized pursuant to and apply the law in accordance with their state's constitution, state statutes, and binding decisions of courts in their state court hierarchy.
The State Court System. The United States has two court systems: 1) the Supreme Court and the lower federal courts, established in somewhat vague terms by Article III of the Constitution, and 2) the state courts. The two systems are somewhat parallel.
