The six dimensions of national culture defined by Geert Hofstede described, presented on world maps and explained on video by Geert.
Professor Geert Hofstede has developed an online tool to compare countries based on six different cultural dimensions: Power Distance, Individualism, Masculinity, Uncertainty Avoidance, Long Term Orientation and Indulgence. The tool can show the score when comparing two or a maximum of three countries at the same time.
Display any dimension of culture on a revolving globe. Determine your perspective by using a touchscreen, or toggle to a world map (top right). A special case is the world map for two dimensions: Power distance PDI / Uncertainty avoidance UAI (giving market - machine - family - pyramid quadrants; see chapter 9 of Cultures & Organizations ).
Hofstede's model includes six key dimensions for comparing national cultures: the Power Distance Index (PDI), Individualism vs. Collectivism (IDV), Masculinity vs. Femininity (MAS), the Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI), Long-Term vs. Short-Term Orientation (LTO), and Indulgence vs. Restraint (IVR).
