Structure. Large crystal of the mineral form of copper (I) oxide (cuprite). In terms of their coordination spheres, copper centres are 2-coordinated and the oxides are tetrahedral. The structure thus resembles in some sense the main polymorphs of SiO 2, but cuprous oxide's lattices interpenetrate.
Cu2O is Cuprite structured and crystallizes in the cubic Pn-3m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Cu1+ is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent O2- atoms. Both Cu–O bond lengths are 1.86 Å. O2- is bonded to four equivalent Cu1+ atoms to form corner-sharing OCu4 tetrahedra.
