What is isotretinoin? Isotretinoin is a form of vitamin A that is used to treat severe nodular acne that has not responded to other treatments, including antibiotics. Isotretinoin is available only from a certified pharmacy under a special program called iPLEDGE. Isotretinoin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

1 Φεβ 2024 · Isotretinoin is used to treat severe, disfiguring nodular acne. It should be used only after other acne medicines or antibiotics have been tried and have failed to help the acne. Isotretinoin may also be used to treat other skin diseases as determined by your doctor.
Dosage and strength. Isotretinoin comes as 10mg or 20mg soft capsules. The dose of isotretinoin capsules varies from person to person, and depends on your body weight. The usual starting dose is 0.5mg per kilogram body weight per day (0.5 mg/kg/day). So if you weigh 60kg, your dose will usually start at 30mg a day.
This medication is used to treat severe cystic acne (also known as nodular acne) that has not responded to other treatment (e.g., benzoyl peroxide or clindamycin applied to the skin or tetracycline or minocycline taken by mouth). It belongs to a class of drugs known as retinoids.
