Four thousand volunteers are culled from American troops in the United Kingdom, including pugnacious Sims Delancey, womanizer Tony Sutherland, gambler Hank Bishop and Heavy Hall. Despite the British officers' disapproval, Darby insists on forming personal relationships with each of his men.
