Students identify the narrator’s view point in a variety of examples and then match definitions to point of view terms. This quiz covers first-person, second-person, and all three modes of third-person narration.
The first-person point of view is a commonly used way to tell a story. Using this method, a character from the story narrates the story. You can generally sense this by the use of sentences that include the word "I".
Define and Explain Each Point of View: There are five possible view points from which a text can be narrated. First, you must explain each perspective to students. First-Person: The narrator tells “I” or “my” story. Also, this may be “we” or “our” story. Ex: We went to the store.
Common points of view include first-person, where the narrator is a character within the story using “I” or “we”; second-person, which uses “you” and is rarely seen in fiction; and third-person, where the narrator is outside the story, using “he,” “she,” or “they.”
Point of view worksheets ask students to identify key pronouns to help them discover if the point of view is first person, third person limited, or third person omniscient. Students can use these templates with any story and even compare differences in the narrators’ points of view.
