This review will cover the anatomy and physiology of the tear film and its supporting structures (lacrimal and meibomian glands and goblet cells) in humans, compare this to animal data, and summarize questions and controversies.
Physiology of Tear Production D.A. Dartt 1 Introduction The tear film consists of three layers: an outer Iipid layer, a middle aqueous layer, and an inner mucous layer. The numerous glands that surround the eye - various types of orbital glands - each contribute to the tear film. The

6 Μαρ 2024 · The nasolacrimal duct (also known as the tear duct) carries tears or lacrimal fluid from the lacrimal sac of the eye into the inferior nasal meatus. The lacrimal gland produces lacrimal fluid when stimulated by parasympathetic impulses from the facial nerve (CN VII) .
In the efferent tear duct barrier arteries, capacitance veins and throttle veins facilitate closure and opening of the lumen of the lacrimal passage by swelling and shrinkage of the cavernous body with consecutive regulation of tear outflow.
26 Νοε 2019 · This chapter explores the normal structure and function of the tear film. Normal properties and composition of tears as well as the structure of the aqueous, mucin, and meibomian layers are...
