25 Μαΐ 2017 · In this article, we consolidate findings from the psychological and economic sciences to derive three basic predictions about social class signaling and the experience of inequality.
Inequality trends are governed by changes in between-class income differences, changes in the relative size of different classes, and changes in within-class income dispersion. Data from the General Social Survey are used to investigate each of these changes in turn and to evaluate their impact on growth in inequality at the population level.
8 Φεβ 2023 · Using the term social status, the three characteristic features of “social status” in Weber’s classic definition are as follows: (1) the specific honor or prestige, (2) specific lifestyle, and (3) positive or negative privileges of the individuals in a given status (Weber 1978a, pp. 305–306; 1978b, pp. 932–938).
In this paper we discuss the role of net worth as a component of status, and, using data from the National Longitudinal Studies of Labor Force Participation, we estimate a status-attainment model for net worth. Net worth includes savings, home equity, business assets, and real estate holdings.
