It started with the discovery of porcelain clay and the spread of porcelain in Europe – a product that became a difficult competitor for Delft pottery. This was followed in 1746 by the invention of white baking clay by the Englishman Cookworthy.
Royal Delft Museum introduces visitors to the cultural heritage of Delft Blue. With stories, temporary exhibitions and of course the permanent collection, visitors are taken on a journey through the history of the age-old, world-famous blue-and-white pottery.
Visit Royal Delft Museum and meet the makers of Delft Blue porcelain also known as Delftware. Royal Delft’s painters, moldmakers and potters have been creating the iconic Delft Blue pottery for many years.
Royal Delft is the only remaining earthenware factory from the 17th century where the world-famous Delft Blue ceramics are still made. You can see the painters performing their craft with the same passion and vitality in accordance with centuries-old traditions.
A visit to the Royal Delft Experience offers you a journey through the complete history and production process of Royal Delftware. During the Experience, feel the painters’ passion during a painting demonstration, wander through the factory where craftsmen are producing the products, or learn more about Delft icons such as Johannes Vermeer.
13 Σεπ 2024 · Since 1653, Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles, known as Royal Delft, is the only establishment out of 33 historical workshops, still manufacturing Delftware. Alternatively, for connoisseurs and collectors, there’s the antique market where exquisite 400 year old Delftware can be found.
