I1, I2, and I3 diamonds are all clarity grades on the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Diamond Clarity Scale. Diamonds with a clarity grade of I1 have inclusions that are noticeable to the naked eye and may affect the diamond’s transparency and brilliance.

I2 and I3 diamonds are not suitable for use in fine jewelry. If a jeweler shows you an I clarity diamond, insist upon knowing the specific grade; if it is below an I1, reject it. If it is an I1 – give it a close inspection with a jewelers loupe and ask to see the inclusion plot graph.
According to G.I.A. Clarity scale, diamond clarity is based on grades that starts from Flawless (FL) to Included (I3). Flawless ( FL) : No inclusions or blemishes are found or detected under 10x magnification.
Diamond clarity is a measure of the purity and rarity of the stone, graded by the visibility of these characteristics under 10-power magnification. Diamond cut is determined by how a diamond's facets interact with light and by symmetry, proportion and polish.
