I've got a 2017 Ram 1500 5.3L V8 with a Keystone Fireside 26ft about 5,500 lbs loaded. I get about 9.3 mpg at highway speed of 60-70 mph. Wondering what other rigs are getting and what the bonus is if any for switching to a diesel. Diesel will always perform better towing than any gasser hands down.
Petrol v diesel - how will the mileage compare? I currently have a small 1.2 engine car, takes about 38 litres of unleaded petrol to fill the tank. A full tank gets me around 350-370 miles in total. That can vary depending on if I do more motorway miles v shorter journeys. I may be purchasing a second hand diesel.

I've been looking at Audi A4's, 2.0 TDI Diesels, 2017-2018 plates, but yet to find the right one. Is buying a Petrol version a bad idea when it comes to fuel economy in my situation? Is there really a huge difference?
Diesel engines often have much further ranges compared to gas cars. For example some diesels like in the Mercedes ML350 (now GLE) can have ranges as far as 700 miles. There have even been some TDI Passats that have gone 1,100 miles on a single tank.
My current car is a 981 Cayman and whilst I absolutely love it, I don't want to put crazy (boring motorway) miles on it. Does a diesel, EV or hybrid make sense for this type of use? I assumed diesel and have been looking at BMW 520d/530d/535d/640d (all about the same price used 15-18k).
The turning, braking, mpg and ride stink compared to a half ton. They are MUCH more money for repairs as well, price out brake jobs and even the oil changes. A 6.7L needs two fuel filters every 2-3 oil changes.
