ABD Medicaid in Georgia serves persons who are 65 years of age or older, legally blind or totally disabled. There are 19 different coverage categories, known as classes of assistance (COA), for the ABD population (see below for the primary categories).
Supplemental Security Income is a federal entitlement program available from the Social Security Administration for persons who are 65 years old, blind or otherwise disabled and meet a certain income requirement. In Georgia, Supplemental Security Income entitles a beneficiary to a monthly check and Medicaid eligibility.
In Georgia, there are approximately 23 different coverage categories, known as classes of assistance (COA), for the aged, blind or disabled (ABD). An individual’s living arrangement, types and amount of income, marital status and prior Medicaid eligibility, among other factors, determine the most appropriate COA.
Pregnant women, children, aged, blind, and disabled individuals whose family income exceeds the established income limit may be eligible under the Medically Needy program.
