Accumulation Distribution looks at the proximity of closing prices to their highs or lows to determine if accumulation or distribution is occurring in the market. The proximity value is multiplied by volume to give more weight to moves with higher volume.
Accumulation Distribution Indicator or ADL (Accumulation Distribution Line) is a volume based indicator which was essentially designed to measure underlying supply and demand. It accomplishes this by trying to determine whether traders are actually accumulating (buying) or distributing (selling).
The average CEF has a distribution rate of more than 6% of net asset value (NAV). However, we caution income-seeking investors not to get myopic when it comes to their CEF investments. For long-term investors, a CEF's total return is far more important than its distribution rate.
