Applying for TOPS . Do you need to apply for TOPS for the first time? Please click the button below to determine what steps need to be taken to apply for TOPS.
You have two options to apply for TOPS: the TOPS Online Application or The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). The FAFSA® allows you to apply for TOPS/TOPS Tech, other state aid, and all federal aid.
Students that apply for TOPS by completing a FAFSA or TOPS online application will be processed for TOPS eligibility, whether or not they have registered for a Student Hub account. If you want to sign up for a Student Hub account, go here.
Students must meet the following requirements each semester to receive payment for TOPS: Be enrolled full-time on the 15th day of class each semester. Earn 24 credit hours each year over the fall, winter session, spring, spring intersession, and summer semesters.
TOPS pays for full-time tuition but does not cover fees. Here are just a few reminders to help you stay eligible for your TOPS award: You are allowed up to 2 academic years of TOPS Tech and 4 academic years of TOPS Opportunity, TOPS Performance, and TOPS Honors.

How to Apply. Complete the FAFSA by July 1 each year. Receive an official TOPS award letter, via email, from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA). Students can expect to receive the notification towards the end of June, or beginning of July.
